Just 5 cents per tip generate a donation of 700,000 euros
Austrian Lotteries draws provide help for aid initiative “Nachbar in Not – Hilfe für die Ukraine”
At Austrian Lotteries, this Easter week is all about providing humanitarian aid to our neighbour. All our draws will be dedicated to helping Ukraine. For each tip placed between Monday, April 11, and Easter Sunday, April 17, Austrian Lotteries will donate 5 cents to the humanitarian aid initiative “Nachbar in Not – Hilfe für die Ukraine”.
This donation applies to all of Austrian Lotteries’ betting games, i.e. Lotto, Joker, EuroMillions, Toto, Bingo, TopTipp, Number Lotto and Lucky Day.
“Based on average game participation, we expect an amount of at least 700,000 euros to benefit Ukraine,” says Lotteries Director General Erwin van Lambaart. “With a favourable jackpot development, however, that amount could increase significantly. We hope to be able to provide help where people currently need it the most.”
For Lotteries’ CEO Martin Skopek, it’s also important to note that the donation doesn’t influence the winning amounts for the game participants and that Austrian Lotteries does not gain any advantage from the initiative: “The donation for the initiative ‘Nachbar in Not – Hilfe für die Ukraine’ is taken entirely from Austrian Lotteries' earnings, and we stand by this campaign. In exceptional situations such as in the current Ukraine crisis, one's socio-political responsibility must include looking across our borders and taking action.”
This new fundraising campaign is a continuation of the aid initiative that was launched at the beginning of March. At that time, a total of 75,000 euros were quickly and unbureaucratically made available from all business divisions of the Casinos and Lotteries Group for “Nachbar in Not – Hilfe für die Ukraine”. The employees also organised a collection of necessary medical supplies to support healthcare in Ukraine. The Corporate Volunteering Programme, in which working time can be used for social engagement activities, was also expanded: staff members can now also do volunteer work in connection with humanitarian aid for people in Ukraine and Ukrainian refugees.
