Celebrities open the win2day ICE Hockey League season with a VIP charity poker tournament
The glamorous season opener of the win2day ICE Hockey League this year once again took place not on the ice, but at the poker table: Last night, crack ice hockey players such as Thomas Raffl and Lukas Haudum played poker for a good cause together with celebrity guests such as Conny Kreuter, Cesár Sampson and Michaela Kirchgasser at Casino Velden. Tournament winner Clemens Doppler donated the prize 5,000 euros to Ronald McDonald Kinderhilfe.
Cards, chips and famous faces at the poker table
First, the invited celebrities had a unique chance to brush up on their poker skills under the guidance of three-time European Poker Champion Jessica Teusl. After a warm welcome by win2day Managing Director Georg Wawer and ICE Hockey League Managing Director Christian Feichtinger, the celebrity guests from the world of sport and culture took their seats at the poker table. These included Dancing Star Conny Kreuter, cabaret artist Nina Hartmann, Eurovision Song Contest candidate Cesár Sampson, ski racer Michaela Kirchgasser, wheelchair tennis ace Nico Langmann, athlete Ivona Dadic, beach volleyball players Alexander Horst and Clemens Doppler, speed skater Vanessa Herzog, ice hockey player & singer Virginia Ernst as well as ice hockey stars like Dominique Heinrich (EC Red Bull Salzburg) and coaching legend Tom Barrasso. Showbiz photographer and former U4 icon Conny de Beauclair captured the fair play moments of the evening with his camera.
High stakes for a good cause: 5,000 euros for Ronald McDonald Kinderhilfe
The donation sum of 5,000 euros was finally donated to Ronald McDonald Kinderhilfe by the winner, Clemens Doppler. After his well-deserved award ceremony, the evening came to an end in a relaxed atmosphere in which poker enthusiasm and social commitment came together. Georg Wawer, Managing Director of win2day, the Austrian Lotteries gaming site, had this to say about this successful evening: “The special kick-off of this new win2day ICE Hockey League once again shows that fair play is much more than just a sporting principle: winning may be exciting in a competition and in gaming, but in real life everyone should win in the end. We were able to express that attitude today, both at the poker table and in support of this good cause.”
The ice is waiting: start and match schedule of the win2day 2023/24 ICE Hockey League
The basic round of the 2023/24 win2day ICE Hockey League season is now officially scheduled. With 13 multinational teams competing in the championship, the new season kicks off on Friday, September 15. A total of 48 games will be played by each team in a double round robin. The regular season will conclude on February 23, 2024.
