Lotto: 43 times six correct picks and 36 million-euro wins
2025 yielded two regional records and the “Feldkirch Quartet”
Picking six correct numbers is still the epitome of a lottery win, and “6 out of 45” remains the most important game offered by Austrian Lotteries, even almost 40 years after it was first introduced. We’d like to take a look at the 45 numbers and the successful attempts to find the “six correct numbers” from different perspectives, which includes two regional top performances, the “Feldkirch Quartet” and a negative record for the number 37.
A total of 43 players were thrilled to hit the main prize of the lottery last year; 36 of them even reached prizes of a million euros or more. 31 solo players laid claim to the top prize, while three times two winners shared the seven-figure sum, and twice the prize was shared between three players. The winners hailed from all nine federal states, and at least one correct six-number combo was played in every month.
A top-five finish and two regional record wins
The lottery highlights of 2025 were a top 5 spot in the all-time rankings with 9.68 million euros (a solo top-tier win after a seven-fold jackpot in Upper Austria) and two regional record wins, both in the top 20: first, there was an 8.27 million-euro win, the highest top-tier win ever achieved in Vorarlberg, and second, a 7.83 million-euro win, the highest such win ever achieved in Burgenland; both, incidentally, were solo wins after six-fold jackpots, ranking in 14th and 16th place respectively among the highest lottery wins.
One time, lottery fans had a chance to win a prize worth over ten million euros, but the 11.5 million-euro seven-fold jackpot at the end of March was shared between three players from Salzburg, Lower Austria and Burgenland.
All good picks came in threes (mostly)
When it comes to betting tickets, 27 of the 43 top-tier wins were the result of a normal ticket, while eleven used a Quick Pick and five used a system ticket. The most popular winning tickets were the standard tickets with three hand-filled picks, which accounted for seven top winners, followed by the standard tickets with eight entries, which accounted for six top winners. On average, six lines were played per winning ticket, which in turn corresponds roughly to the average number of lines per ticket on the total ticket volume.
A quartet for Feldkirch
For 2025, Feldkirch in Vorarlberg has clearly shown itself to be the luckiest district in all of Austria. This is where four people picked six correct numbers, twice as many as in the runner-up districts of Leoben, Neusiedl, Villach, Vienna-Leopoldstadt and Wolfsberg, each with two such prizes won. A total of 32 of Austria’s 116 districts enjoyed at least one six-number win (in addition to three six-number wins achieved via win2day or the Lotteries app, which cannot be assigned to any particular district).
Forties top, and a record low for the 37
The most frequently drawn Lotto number in 2025 was 27, which was drawn 30 times over the course of 124 rounds, followed by the number 4, which was drawn 23 times. The numbers from 40 to 45 were most heavily presented among the six correct picks: on average, these numbers were drawn 18.5 times, in contrast to their neighbours from 30 to 39, which in turn were only drawn 14.6 times. This group also featured a negative record: the number 37 had the longest dry spell – after the draw on May 4, 69 rounds passed before it made another appearance on November 23, making it the longest gap for any number since the introduction of the lottery. This made 37 the number that was drawn the least often: like the numbers 26 and 39, it only emerged from the draw funnel seven times in 2025.
