LONG-STANDING PARTNER OF THE MOUNTAIN RESCUE SERVICE
Austrian Lotteries has supported the Mountain Rescue Service for over 30 years. As a non-profit institution, this service relies on the support of reliable partners from the business community.
The thousands of volunteers who work for the Austrian Mountain Rescue Service do great things every day, many of which save lives. Their commitment, where they risk their own lives for the mountain and hiking enthusiasts in case of emergency, cannot be appreciated highly enough. Since 1991, Austrian Lotteries has been happy to contribute to the purchase of urgently needed equipment.
“The number of rescue missions, as well as the number of people being rescued, has been rising sharply since Covid-related travel restrictions were lifted. Unfortunately, many people underestimate the dangers associated with hiking in the mountains,” President Stefan Hochstaffl says with concern. “This is also reflected in the deployment figures. In 2022 alone, mountain rescuers were called out on a total of 9,336 missions. 6,582 injured were treated, and assistance was provided over 2,000 times. Unfortunately, for 266 people it was too late to provide any help.”
The primary goal of the Mountain Rescue Service is to significantly reduce the accident rate. Austrian Lotteries supports the service as a partner in the important area of accident prevention. Safety tips and advice on how to prepare for a hiking tour can be found at www.bergrettung.at
