38 new Lotto millionaires in one fell swoop with winnings ranging from 1.15 to 5.73 million euros

August 1, 2023, will be part of Austria’s gaming history. What happened on that day was simply unprecedented, in not one, but two ways:  first, there is a windfall of over 72 million euros. After five unsuccessful attempts, it was possible to pick the “5 plus 2 correct picks” and crack the Europot on Tuesday. Not just anywhere – in Austria. And only in Austria. This means that the winnings amount to exactly 72,144,196 euros, the highest winnings from a lottery ever achieved in Austria (the previous record was 55.6 million euros in 2008, also with EuroMillions).

Second, this Austrian record sum created 38 new Lotto millionaires in a single day... in one fell swoop. This is because these winnings were achieved with a so-called share ticket, which consists of 63 shares where any one person can purchase up to five shares. This means that each share amounts to a prize of just under 1.15 million euros. These 63 shares were played by the following 38 participants from all nine of Austria’s federal states: seven each from Vienna and Upper Austria, five each from Lower Austria and Vorarlberg, three from Tyrol, two each from Salzburg, Burgenland and Styria, one from Carinthia and four via the win2day gaming site.

Four winners played the maximum number of five shares and won over 5.7 million euros. Three of them hail from Upper Austria, Vorarlberg and Styria respectively, while the fourth participant played via win2day.
