Austrian Film Award: Austrian Lotteries congratulates The 2023 Award Winners

On Thursday evening, the 13th Austrian Film Awards were presented in 16 different categories. As a premium partner, Austrian Lotteries warmly congratulates this year’s award winners and all nominees. 

First and foremost, the semi-documentary project “Vera” by the directing duo Tizza Covi and Rainer Frimmel received the top award, “Best Film”, among others. Claudia Müller’s work “Elfriede Jelinek – Die Sprache von der Leine lassen” (“Elfriede Jelinek – Letting Language Off the Leash”) received the “Best Documentary Film” award. On Lotteries Day on October 12, both films will be shown throughout Austria as part of the joint cooperation “Filmpreis on tour”.

A total of 25 films and 86 filmmakers were nominated for the 2023 Film Awards. The award ceremony was directed by Catalina Molina and took place at the Globe Vienna in the Marx Halle. The film gala was moderated by Julia Jelinek and Thomas Mraz.

In this way, we take responsibility and help Austrian filmmakers get the recognition they deserve. Austrian film has its share of problems, but it is writing a success story that is rightly receiving a lot of international attention.”

In line with our motto “Practicing Responsibility Together!”, Austrian Lotteries maintains a tradition that is distinguished by its social commitment, responsibility and, above all, consistency. Together with the Academy of Austrian Cinema, the “Austrian Film Award on tour” Lotteries Day was launched last year in order to fulfil the Academy’s long-held wish and to take the film award to the provinces as well.  

This year, as part of this cooperation, Lotteries Day will once again take place on October 12 under the motto “Film Prize on tour”. On this day, in cooperation with the participating cinemas, visitors will have a chance to see the winners of the 2023 Film Award in the categories “Best Feature Film”, “Best Documentary Film” and “Best Short Film” throughout Austria with free admission. This is how Austrian Lotteries aims to help Austrian film get a bigger stage and bring joy to cinema lovers all across Austria. Admission is free to anyone who’s interested upon presentation of an Austrian Lotteries product.
