A look back at 2021: more than 10 high scorers per week, the month of February established as a "millionaire factory", and the bonus draw as an added chance to score high prizes

For the first time, we've had an average of over ten high scorers per week; that's what truly sets apart Austrian Lotteries' winning record in 2021. A total of 548 players – more than we've ever had before – were excited to win 100,000 euros or more in this past year. 47 of them even won top prizes in the million-euro range.
Two players, both from Lower Austria, won the absolute highest prizes in 2021. They cracked the Lotto six-fold jackpot at the beginning of February and won exactly 5,001,911.80 euros each, one with a normal ticket, one with a Quicktipp. The federal state with the most millionaire prize-winners this past year is Styria, where 11 million-euro prizes were won, followed by Lower Austria with 10 and Vienna with 8, Upper Austria with 7, Tyrol with 5, and Carinthia and Burgenland with 3 millionaire prize-winners each.

Most of the 53 players who picked six correct Lotto numbers were located in Vienna and Styria with 11 each, ahead of Lower Austria (10), Upper Austria (6), Burgenland and Tyrol (5 each), Carinthia (4) and Vorarlberg (1).The top numbers were in the 40s and the single digitsIn 2021, the most popular Lotto numbers were 5 and 45, drawn 24 times each over a total of 114 rounds. These two numbers are also among those most often seen among the "six correct picks": on average over this past year, each of the numbers in the forties was drawn 17.2 times and each single-digit number was drawn 16.9 times. Bringing up the rear were the numbers in the 30s, with an average draw frequency of a mere 11.2.

The "lucky months": February and May

If we analyse the individual months with regard to luck, then the "merry month of May" surely was Lady Luck's favourite, with a total of 39 top-level prizes. (This is not taking into account the three "Austria Super Bonus" rounds in April, August and November, in which 50 prizes of 100,000 euros each were drawn in a single go.) Surprisingly, the month of February yielded the most millionaires: it was the shortest month of the year when no fewer than eight players won million-euro prizes. Then there was a summer slump in July: with a mere 26 top-level prizes, July came in last in our ranking of lucky months.
Bonus draws add ten more opportunities to win big prizes

After their premiere in 2020, the Lotto bonus draws managed to establish themselves as extra opportunities to win in this past year. These additional Friday draws took place ten times in 2021, and in September, a Vienna player took advantage of this opportunity to hit a quadruple jackpot and win around 4.4 million euros.
