1.6 million euros for "Nachbar in Not" – aid for Ukraine
Thanks to Austrian Lotteries and the government, 5 cents per pick were converted into a donation of 1.6 million euros.
Five cents per pick over the course of a week – that was the formula on which Austrian Lotteries based its fundraising campaign for "Nachbar in Not – Hilfe für die Ukraine", an organisation to aid Ukraine. And the result is highly impressive: in the end, Austrian Lotteries transferred 800,000 euros to "Nachbar in Not", and this sum was then matched by the federal government. A total of 1.6 million euros will now benefit the Ukrainian population, which has been badly affected by the war.
"Helping quickly is worth twice as much. Thanks to the Austrian government, we were able to help twice as much not just in a figurative sense, but a very real sense, where people currently need help the most," says the new Lotteries Director General Erwin van Lambaart. He is pleased about the success of this campaign, which was launched at short notice and carried out quickly and without any bureaucratic obstacles.
Exactly 14,792,919 picks were placed by Austrians or Austrian residents in the Lotto, Joker, EuroMillions, TopTipp, Toto, Bingo, Zahlenlotto and Lucky Day games in the period from April 11 to 17, resulting in donations in the amount of 739,645.95 euros.
"We are proud of this result, and we thank everyone who participated that we were able to significantly exceed the projected sum of 700,000 euros," Lotteries Board Director Martin Škopek states. He also explains the round donation sum of 800,000 euros: "We felt compelled to round the amount up to the next hundred thousand for this worthy cause."
