Austrian Lotteries has often been a pioneer on the international stage, too. This is especially true when it comes to the protection of players and adolescents, the most important aspect of responsible gaming.

Austrian Lotteries and win2day (as well as Casinos Austria, WINWIN and tipp3) have one of the strictest and most effective player protection programmes in Europe – one that reaches far beyond simply complying with legal requirements.

The responsible gaming measures are implemented according to a five-point programme:

  1. Player Protection: This has absolute priority. For example, compulsory registration with win2day as well as mystery shopping calls at retail outlets of Austrian Lotteries ensure that the age limits for participation in games of chance are fully adhered to.
  2. Regular, Lasting Training: New staff members are required to attend courses on responsible gaming. The annual highlight of our in-service training is the ‘Responsible Gaming Academy’ for managers and customer-facing staff. Successful completion of a course on responsible gaming is a prerequisite for anyone wishing to become a retail partner of Austrian Lotteries.
  3. Responsible Advertising: A voluntarily established ‘Code of Conduct Responsible Advertising’ ensures that advertising complies with strict guidelines and does not over-stimulate the urge to gamble.
  4. Promotion of Research and Cooperation with Counselling Centres and Treatment Facilities: They form a basis for effective preventive measures against possible problem gambling behaviour.
  5. Quality Assurance of Content and Processes: Responsible gaming measures are regularly certified according to international standards (World Lottery Association, European Lotteries; European Casino Association).

Multi-level gaming restrictions or player bans are provided for in all areas should the preceding player protection measures fail.
